Receiving Honorable Mentions are WFCR for "Love, War and PTSD: Peter and Anna Mohan" — a story of one couple coping with the effects of combat-related PTSD — and National Public Radio for "Mental Anguish, Injustice, and the Military" — a chilling investigative series of investigative on the mistreatment of soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with serious mental health issues.

Presentation of this year's Dart Awards will be followed by a panel discussion:

Out of the Shadows: Reporting on Violence Against Women

Every year in the United States, approximately 132,000 women report that they have been victims of rape or attempted rape. Each year, 572,000 reports of assault by intimates are officially reported to federal officials, but estimates indicate two to four million women of all races and classes are battered annually. At least 170,000 of those violent incidents are serious enough to require hospitalization or a doctor's attention.

Reporting on violence against women, particularly in minority or marginalized communities, poses particular challenges. What special challenges confront journalists covering these issues? What are the reporting possibilities and pitfalls? What is involved in getting the story right?

Panelists include:

Gus Chan, Photographer, The Cleveland Plain Dealer

Rachel Dissell, Reporter, The Cleveland Plain Dealer

Johanna Orozco, the young woman whose story is the focus of the Cleveland Plain Dealer's award-winning series

Laura Sullivan, Reporter, National Public Radio

Moderator: Bruce Shapiro, Executive Director, Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma
