Berlin Trauma Conference
3 June, 2003

The Dart Centre hosted a day of discussions on “Journalism and Trauma” on May 21, 2003 at the Berlin Conference of the European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ESTSS).

Field Director of Dart Centre US Bruce Shapiro, together with one of America's top specialists on journalism and trauma Elana Newman, and Director of Dart Europe Mark Brayne, were joined by eight British, German and American journalists to discuss the growing global work of Dart and progress on trauma training at the BBC and Reuters.

The event was the first of its kind under the Dart Europe umbrella, drawing on the experience of the Dart Fellows Programme in the US but on this occasion without the same formal application and selection process.

Dart Europe hopes to be able to sponsor a similar programme at the next ESTSS conference in Stockholm in Spring 2005, and plans also earlier to work with ESTSS regional conferences such as one planned for Cardiff in October 2003.
