Remembering September 11

Anniversaries mark progress and the passage of time. They can also conjure memories we may not always want to face. On this anniversary of the September 11 attacks, the Dart Center calls attention to a uniquely eloquent journalistic record of the attacks' long aftermath; and to resources available as we seek to better cover, and understand, the longterm effects of horrific events.

Introducing the 2012 Dart Center Ochberg Fellows

The Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism has announced recipients of the 2012 Dart Center Ochberg Fellowships for journalists seeking to deepen their reporting of violence, conflict and tragedy.

This year’s Fellows including outstanding mid-career journalists in all media, representing 10 nations and five continents.

Call for Applications: Dart Center Ochberg Fellowships

The Dart Center Ochberg Fellowship is a unique seminar program for mid-career journalists who want to deepen their knowledge of emotional trauma and psychological injury, and improve reporting on violence, conflict and tragedy. Fellows attend an intensive weeklong program of seminars and discussions held at Columbia University in New York City.

Covering Suicide: Workshop for Philadelphia Journalists

A workshop for journalists on covering suicide, sponsored by the Thomas Scattergood Foundation for Behavioral Health and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, will take place September 21 and 22 at WHYY in Philadelphia.

"Generation Iraq": A Conversation With Journalists Shaped by the Iraq War

On the ten year anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, the Dart Center revisits a conversation, held at Columbia University on April 4, 2012, among five acclaimed reporters and photographers who have been shaped by the Iraq war.

Ochberg Fellowships Go Global!

The Dart Center invites midcareer journalists to apply for the 2012 Ochberg Fellowship Program.  For the first time the Fellowship is truly global, welcoming applications from midcareer journalists worldwide.

Classroom Innovators Awarded 2012 Dart Academic Fellowships

Fourteen journalism educators from six countries will gather at Columbia University for seminars and discussions on understanding emotional trauma and incorporating responsible coverage of tragedy into the curriculum.

This year's winners of the Dart Awards for Excellence in Coverage of Trauma: The New York Times, for  “Punched Out: The Life and Death of a Hockey Enforcer," and WNYC Radio, for its documentary “Living 9/11.” 

Tucson Tragedy
